Spiced Earl Grey Hot Chocolate

Tetley Earl Grey adds a floral twist to classic hot chocolate along with spices that warm you from the inside out.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (500 mL) milk
  • 3 Earl Grey tea bags
  • 1 tbs (15 mL) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbs (15 mL) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) pumpkin pie spice, plus more for garnish
  • Pinch cayenne
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) whipped topping

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan set over medium-low heat, warm milk and Tetley Earl Grey tea bags until steaming. 
  2. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, stir together cocoa powder, sugar, 1/2 tsp (2 mL) pumpkin pie spice and pinch of cayenne. Whisk into milk mixture until sugar is dissolved. Heart for 5 more minutes, then discard tea bags. Stir in vanilla. 
  3. Divide mixture evenly between two mugs. Top with whipped topping. Garnish with a pinch of pumpkin pie spice. 

Tips

  • For a hint of maple, substitute granulated sugar with maple sugar or maple syrup, if desired. 
  • For a hint of fall, whisk 2 tbs (30 mL) pure pumpkin puree in Step 2 with milk mixture. 
  • For a plant-based beverage, use oat milk and a plant-based whipped topping or cream.
